BioRegen

Roll-out of BioReGen results begins

The roll-out of the BioReGen results began on 26 May at the Rejuvenate Conference where Dr Richard Lord presented an invited paper on “Biomass production on brownfield sites – a case study and wide opportunities in the Northeast of England” on behalf of the Bioland consortium. Rejuvenate is a project within the Snowman ERA-NET FP6 programme which has partners in UK, Germany, Sweden and Netherlands. The presentation gave new information on the viability of using brownfields for energy crops, in particular the excellent yields of reed canary grass achieved by BioReGen on full-scale mechanized trials on real sites.

BioReGen: /bio-re-gen/
BioReGen is short for "Biomass, Remediation reGeneration: Re-using brownfield sites for renewable energy crops". It is a 4-5 year project funded by the Life III Environment Programme to investigate whether brownfield sites can be used to grow plants for fuel (energy crops).
